Bittersweet

I’ve recently found myself reflecting on situations that I would have been in had God not intervened to get me out. In both situations I’ve seen others in the position I would have been in.

It is so complex to feel so relieved and overwhelmed at God’s goodness in getting you out while feeling wrong for celebrating a situation someone else is now in.

I’m writing about this because I’ve heard from numerous others who are in similar situations. It’s complex to experience to say the least.

There is nothing wrong with being humbled by the mercy of God in your own life.

It’s also okay to grieve for someone else.

What you can’t do is forget that God is just as capable of using even this for their good.

I have learned that you can have peace in the face of pain when you know that pain is a gift when it helps you know God deeper. There is nothing more worthwhile than a deeper relationship with God. If comfort is an idol, then pain that shows you the heart of God will always be a gift.

When you know this in your soul - not just in mind, but when your heart has experienced pain so deep and wrestled so intimately with God, it brings indescribable freedom. I cannot articulate just how much life changes with the peace that comes from relationship with Christ.

The wrestling that is happening in your heart is an opportunity to run to God. It’s okay to feel conflicting emotions when you have peace in God but still are human. It’s okay to be so humbled by God’s goodness that you don’t feel “worse”. The same God who has been so merciful to you in your story has plans for good for them too.
